We see so many puzzle games now released in the gaming market today. Whether that’s on a console, or a handheld device like a mobile phone or tablet, or a PC, we`re seeing what perhaps is the biggest game genre in terms of games. Especially ID games on Xbox. There are so many developers that have decided to jump down the Puzzler bandwagon.
Over the past few days, I`ve had the chance to check out a new puzzle game to the family, and that comes in the form of Death Squared. Death Squared is developed and published by SMG Studio, but is it a game that`s going to offer a fun, addictive challenge? Or is it another puzzler that is going to fail to grip you into the game? Well, it’s certainly not the latter, and I`ve actually had quite a bit of fun with it too.
Death Squared is a puzzle game where the objective is simple. You have two coloured blocks, and you have to get them to their colour light spots on the grid to complete the level. Sounds easy right? Well, it`s not going to be as simple as you`d think. Moving the wrong colour on a wrong part of the grid will result in it falling through and smashing, and that’s the end of the level. You have to complete the level to open up the next one and so forth, so there`s no way of progressing without completing it. Patience is going to be needed, and a strategic mind-set is also going to needed, as you`re going to need to work out how to advance the level. It is however a fun challenge, and although some levels are going to be very tricky, even from very on, providing you have the patience, you`ll be fine.

It`s not a game that’s going to ask a lot of you for the controls, but it is a game that`s going to be a bit awkward at the start in terms of being able to combine both. Both blocks are controlled by the analogue sticks, so one block will be controlled by the left stick and the other block the right stick. It can be a real challenge at the start, but later on, once you’ve mastered it, it becomes quite easy.
The nice thing about Death Squared is it’s a game that you can jump into with other friends. 4 player co-op is on offer, and when you have 4 players, your two blocks then become four, and you have to do the same thing but with four blocks rather than two. It becomes quite a good challenge to be with your friends and strategize together in how you`re going to complete the level. In terms of a co-op puzzler, it`s probably one of the best ones I`ve played this year. It really, really is. You don’t need to look much further if you`re after a puzzler to play with your mates.
Death Squared is a game that`s a fun, challenging and addictive puzzler, and is a great game to jump into either on your own, or with your friends. Ranging over 50 levels, you`re going to need patience and the ability to be able to work out your routes. If you`re someone that`s not very patient, then perhaps this isn’t going to be the game for you, as it does start becoming tricky early on, but if you`re a patient gamer and love solving puzzles then you`ll really enjoy this. SMG studios can be really proud of their game, and it`s one that truly gets a thumbs up rating from me.
