Week one of the season started out with a double header against SoggyCabbages, a manager who has a reputation for playing defensively. With it being my first games in the league I wanted to get off to a flyer and 6 points. Form wise I had beaten him 3-0 in an event a week or so ago so was confident I’d be able to break him down
The first game looked pretty even on the stats, a 54/46 split in possession and just 12 shots in total, but I managed to convert my chances better. After 20 mins of feeling each other out Liverpool opened the scoring as Merino played Ross Barkley through and he finished nicely into the bottom corner, to score on his competitive debut for the club. Kraft made a couple of decent saves after that and we had to wait until the 57th minute when Barkley was brought down in the area, and stepped up to the spot to make it 2-0. Things opened up a bit then as Soggy tried to get back in to it, and Pavon quickly made it 3-0 as he turned the defender and finished low into the corner. Barkley had a chance to get his hat trick but blazed it over the bar, and the last action of the game was Merino making it four as he nicked the ball off the defenders foot and coolly finished past the keeper
The second game was our first game back at Anfield and it was a bit more one sided as we had 10 shots to Soggys 2. Pavon missed a great chance early on as he sliced wide from metres out, and Kraft followed up with a couple of saves, but it was only a matter of time and Josip Misic opened the scoring with a delightful solo effort as he made 2 defenders miss and curled the ball into the bottom corner for the lead. Kraft made another tremendous save from Pavon, who then missed another sitter, before the lead was finally doubled in bizarre circumstances as Barkleys powerful shot rebounded off the keeper, hit the defender and went in for an own goal. Again the last action of the game was a goal, a lovely footballing move capped by Barkley being in acres of space and slotting to the defenders right.
