Drogheda United are pleased to announce the signing of young English manager Ash Cohen, on a 2 year season deal. Ash comes to us after seasons at Arsenal Tula, and most notably, Bayern Munich, and is seen as one of the best up-and-coming promising managers in world football.
Ash, who is known for his tiki-taka style of play, has hoped to bring success to the Irish side, and believes that they can challenge on all 3 competitions they are playing in, the Premiership, the League cup and the Elite competition, the Champions Cup.
Ash has spoken to DUTV ahead of signing a 2 year deal.
"I`m very happy to sign a contract here. It`s a fantastic club, and was the only club I was interested in when weighing up my options. I had 2 very good seasons at Arsenal Tula, and then 2 very good seasons with Bayern Munich, where we went to the Premiership and almost won the league in the Championship. I was very happy at Bayern Munich, but I felt that the time had come to leave the club, and to be able to move on to a new chapter in my life.
I think we have a very exciting squad here who are very talented. Simone Scuffet, who`s a young top goalkeeper, Antonio Sanabria who we`ve brought in from Roma, and Munir who we`ve snapped up from Barca are some of the key players, but they are all going to have a important part in our season. We need consistency. We need consistency if we are going to challenge for the league title, which I believe we can do.
You may laugh, but the Premiership is a very tough league, as there are quite a few teams that can win it. Managers such as CookieMUFC and Roobiash I see are the favourites in the Media, but you really dont know how it`ll go. There are ourselves, Emotionalworm, Cheesey Crease, MarkPaterson and so many more than can win it. It`s very difificult to call. It`ll all come down to consistency, and which teams can scrap the wins and take all the points.
What will you see from me at the club? To hopefully bring entertainment to the fans, aswell as keeping a balance between attack and a good defence. That`s quite vital, if one outweighs the other, then you have a problem.
I dont speak about the transfer market at the moment, as it is not currently open. There are a few players we`d like to bring in, and we will be in contact with those managers when the market opens. As far as outgoings go, there wont be any. It`s vital we dont try and upset the harmony within the team, as it will truly cause problems. Of course, any manager can approach us and if a correct deal is there then we will mull it over, just like any other manager when they have a approach for one of their players. But, at the moment, we cannot speak of it as the market is not open. And for some, it wont be open for some time"
