Azkend 2 : The World Beneath

This is a very basic game that allows for people to waste time. This will be a game that you will finish once and then uninstall, it’s a smoothly operating puzzle game, or in other words a re-skinned candy crush, yet the best part about it is that you don’t have to spam your Facebook friends to play with you.

The storyline – The whole point of the puzzle game is to arrange the puzzle pieces so chains of 3 or longer are formed thus moving the pieces away allowing the item part you are looking for to fall down to the bottom of the puzzle in order for you to collect it, You collect pieces to build things such as a compass and binoculars helping you find your way, before you get sucked down into the rough  seas, and to make your way back to civilization from the deep down darkness of the earth, you collect power-ups to help you discover your way home to New York. This has different types of items you need to match up in order for the pieces to move, items such as sharks teeth, turtle shells and binoculars and compass’s. All to follow that ‘exploration’ theme. The first 10 minutes of gameplay is fun, however there is a lot of hand holding and guiding you through such a simple game, even when you turn the help/tutorials off.

This game was definitely created for kids to be kept entertained for hours, but for someone who plays games properly for a good action filled story line, then this isn’t for you. The board layouts are very frustrating and with random bolts of lightning changing the game up the whole time and making it hard to see what there is to choose from, it adds to the annoying factor, the timing per board feels inconsistent and another frustrating.

This game is really monotonous and has been created to try and suck in the masses like candy crush did, but with what the developers call a ‘story line’. The game is pretty much the same every level, just to find a piece of the item that you are looking for.

The graphics are smooth and have an interesting style, that’s smooth, however it lacks colour and it doesn’t stand out. One thing that also stands out is that the game is definitely ported over from ipad or the cell phone platform, because the dialogue is cut off and hard to read, same as the buttons to click and your inventory/score. This makes it hard to work out what you need to do, so inevitable you land up mashing buttons till something happens.

I was struggling to stay entertained with this game; candy crush really ruined this whole genre of games for lots of people, tying the spam/Facebook invites to this genre. It has put me off this genre and I’m sure a bunch of people will agree.

I really didn’t enjoy playing this game, the story was very cheesy and boring and monotonous. The devs saw the opportunity from candy crush and then tried to port it over to xbox and increase the volume of players; however this game won’t make such an impact to the xbox community as there are better games for the value.

I thoroughly didn’t enjoy this game however with a lot of work this game could be something good., it was a real grind to get through this game, it struggled to keep me entertained, and I couldn’t wait to uninstall it off my console.

Thanks to the developers 10tons Ltd and XCN for allowing us to play this game.
