CubiKolor Review

For those that are currently in school, you probably have heard of a game called Bloxorz. It`s a game that`s made its way too many game sites and is a game that you would spend time in school playing, in that computer suite lesson, instead of doing your work. I was the same. I always remember finding it quite easy to start with and it`d begin to challenge me over the course of the next hour and 90+ levels that I would need to navigate the block from point A to B. Well, now you`re about to get something similar on the console, with Cubikolor by Moving Player. Is it a game that will test your patience but the thrivitity it gives you to succeed? Or is it a game that will push you to your boundaries that the mind can withstand before you cull and give up?

CubiKolor is a ID game developed by Moving Player, and the emphasis of the game is to get the block into the hole in the shortest moves possible. Along the way, and set across 150 levels that get progressively harder as you get into it, you have to use your mind and strategize, as not only have you got to think of what moves will you get you to the end point, you also have to match the color on the block to the color on the floor for it to be able to elevate you to where you need to go. So, if you have a yellow floor piece, you need to have the yellow side of the block match the floor at the same time. So you need to work out a move that`s going to enable that, and that`s where it starts to get tricky, and a true puzzler. There are several hints and clues that you`ll find yourself indulged in throughout to help you get to the next stage, but beware, there`s a lot of things that are going to testify and put you to the edge of giving up. If anything, I`d make sure you have a spare controller lying around, just in case.

Very similar to other puzzler games like this you may have played before, you can click the B button which will allow you to go back a few steps if you get it wrong. However, bear in mind you won`t know if you`ve gone wrong until you`ve actually gone wrong, so be prepared on that front.  In terms of controlling the game, it feels very simplistic and is a game that you`ll easily be able to pick up. But, as I have already mentioned, you need to have a patient mind and if you`re someone who likes to do thing 1-2-3 and gets frustrated very easily, then this game isn’t for you my friend.

You know, I love a good puzzle game, and I love games that are meant to be challenging. But at times throughout Kubicolor it just feels like Moving Player have over done it, and in a way made things too difficult, as at times you feel like you`ve done everything you can and it still isn’t enough, and you`re left with nowhere to go. It`s a game that I like the way it`s done it in terms of challenging the gamer, but I also fear and wonder that they`ve over-done it, and perhaps what could drive players to the absolute limit. No worser feeling that being pushed to the boundary and then left with no-where to go and feeling like you`ve failed. Of course, some people will love the challenge and thrive on it, but for the average gamer, this isn’t a game that is going to give you the patience and make you calmer after a day of work. If anything, it has the potential to wind you up even further.

Throughout the game, with any other game, the further you go the harder the levels get. They will start very easily getting to the more difficult and extreme towards the end, which by that time you would have been sick to death with this. However, it`s not all about just completing the level to progress. You`ll need to do it in the lowest amount of moves possible, and in the quickest time possible to enable you to progress. And that`s another factor where I think the developers have over done it. Some of them require you to think very instinctly and very on the spot of where to go, and without being a computer, some of them require you to do the impossible. You earn medals at the end of every level that are based on the time you take to complete said level. The quicker you are, the higher the medal you`ll earn.

It`s a game that is going to frustrate you, and you need to have the patience of it. If you`re not a patient man, as I have already said, don’t bother. It`s not for you. You need to have the patience. It`s a game that on the whole, if you can stand it, is good. I think though that Moving Player have done it far too over in terms of difficulty, and that`s something that`s going to put a lot of people off, in said way of indulging a player into the start, and then leaving after level 30 or so because it`s challenging them way further than it should.

However, if you are a patient player with the love for puzzlers, then this is definitely worth a purchase for you my friend.

A huge thank you to XCN for supplying us with a Review copy of CubiKolor
