Peggle 2 Review

I sit here with a grin from ear to ear; it’s not my fault honestly. It’s Peggle’s. This game simply makes you happy, and no I’m not smoking something funny. Peggle 2’s use of cool animations and family humour can’t help but make you chuckle and smile. It’s impossible to dislike this game. With main character Bjorn the unicorn returning from Peggle 1 the familiar faces are bolstered by some quite legendary figures as you go through the world of Peggle 2.

For those new to the series, such as me, Peggle 2 has a very simplistic concept.  However it is very rewarding and often difficult at times.    Imagine pinball but when you hit the targets (Pegs) you gain points, the idea is of course gain as many points as possible and clear all the pegs.  Pretty easy yeah? Well maybe not.  To clear all pegs and achieve the objectives Bjorn and company set for you is a real achievement.

When first getting into Peggle 2 I had this overriding feeling of, this game will become pretty boring fast.  But as you play through the levels the developers have made good use of the animations and trails to keep you enthralled and interacted with Bjorn and his fellow ‘Masters.’  Of which there are 4 new Master in Peggle 2, but I won’t spoil it for you.

One downside to Peggle 2 is how it abuses the Game DVR in the trials mode, constantly posting clubs on my upload page of meaningless fails and shots.  I’m not sure if this is to achieve something or whether it’s a mistake somewhere down the line but I expect it to be fixed in a patch.  Another downside is the lack of leaderboards, I’d like to see how well the score I got ranks amongst friends and other player around the Peggle universe.  Aside from those which are easily fixed Peggle 2 offers a lot for something only worth £12.

Multiplayer deserves a mention, simplistic as is the game, you’re attempting to outscore the players you are pitted against online, would be better to see some innovative modes being added to the game, but I expect some DLC in the near future.  As previously mentioned you can tell that this is a smallish game by the price but the depth and fun you can have in Peggle 2 is immense, it can be at times, more appreciated depending on how you look at it, or who you play with.

This simplistic return to a cult classic makes Peggle 2 a must buy for fans of the original series, and for new comers, at a cheap price of £12 it really is a bargain to pick up for your loose MS cash you may have lying around!
