Club League Cup Final:
Sheffield Wednesday picked up their third trophy under the stewardship of the man known as Balonga in a comprehensive 5-1 win over ImmortalTanz's Newcastle United. The victory goes alongside a simulation league and cup double achieved a few seasons ago
After a cagey opening quarter the men from Sheffield asserted their authority and bossed the match. Newcastle did threaten a revival after when the score was 2-1 but their nerves showed as they struggled to cope with being in a major final. We caught up with Balonga who couldn't hide his joy at sealing a third trophy with the unfancied champions.
"Three trophies is an incredible return for the club like ours. After conquering the Simulation League I thought the journey was over. I'm not going to lie to you when I say me coming back to the club was a bit of an accident. I left Las Palmas and could have ended up at a few other clubs but fate intervened and brought me home."
After a shaky start to the season many observers were critical of Balonga's return. Early defeats and a public bashing of keeper Keiren Westwood indicated morale in the camp was low. "We weren't in a good place at the start of this campaign. Westy made those mistakes in Switzerland and I called him out on it. All credit to Westy though because since then he's not put a foot wrong. All the lads trust him and at the end of the day we've won three trophies with him behind the sticks."
Attention now diverts to the league with four clashes left against the top two. With relegation an outside possibility Balonga is focused on the challenges that await him and his side. "We've got to go to Southampton who need the points for their title challenge and will be disappointed to have gone out of the cup. oBIGASHo will have his boys fired up and I know from experience how tough his teams are. Lastly there's TheAshCohen09's Monaco who are the current league leaders. It's going to be very tough for us but we need points to avoid the relegation playoff. The cup win is fantastic but the bread and butter is the league and survival is paramount. I've been to Club League 2 and I don't want to go back there ever again.
