Gunscape - Xbox One Review

Blowfish Studios hybrid Gunscape tries to marry the nonstop action of a First Person Shooter with the construction gameplay of Minecraft.

I am an FPS addict and every time a new game comes on the market I want to get my hands on it but I hate Minecraft. I don’t have it in me to spend hour upon hour constructing houses and fortresses among many other things does nothing for me. Having to mine for materials to build these things fills me with dread. I just can’t think of anything less exciting. For me the game hinges on how easy the interface you use to build the levels is to use. Is it intuitive enough for a total novice like myself to be able to build a level or would I give up.

As I mentioned above these construction games are not my thing. Overly complicated level building interfaces just turn me right off but I’m happy to report that Gunscape is incredibly intuitive and simple to use and I’ve spent more time constructing levels than actually playing online at least I did until constant disconnects completely ruined what could have been a great game. I even hardwired my Xbox in case my wireless connection was the problem. It wasn't. Then I decide to try Gunscape on my Stepson's Xbox in case the problem was something to do with my Xbox. It wasn't. The disconnects were totally random. Sometimes it would happen within minutes and sometimes I might be lucky enough to get twenty minutes of gameplay before being kicked from the servers. I contacted Blowfish Studios to ask them if they were aware of any server issues and they weren't but they did say that they would look into it for me. As of now I haven't heard back off them.

This is also a problem with the single player campaign. It's set over eight levels so it's short and just serves to show you what can be achieved when you put the time and effort in. But after managing about an hour in total my patience couldn't take anymore warning messages popping up and then booting me back to the main screen. I was really looking forward to sitting down with my Minecraft mad Stepson and getting stuck into some level building but in its current state Gunscape is just a mess. Avoid at all costs until the server issues are ironed out.
