SuperHot

Superhot has definitely brought a new style of game to the genre that has been looking for refreshment for a while. This time-based action shooter is something new and something great!

I saw a trailer for this game a while ago on the internet and I thought it had some possible potential. I was luckily enough to get a code for it, to test it out to see if it was as good as it looked from a minute long trailer. It was a lot better than what I imagined. The whole concept of the faster your character moves the faster time moves is great. It brings something new. Yes the graphics may not rival those of battlefield or something like that but the gameplay surely matches it. The whole game is set with a red, black and white theme to keep it simple, with the main menus similar to those of an old computer, with some hidden secrets inside some of the files. This game will keep you entertained for hours, planning each move step by step and making sure that you don’t get hit by anything.

I love the way the story of this game is portrayed it makes you feel as if your an action hero in the matrix being able to bend time and kill bad guys!, you are sitting behind an older classic style computer and you are given a game by your friend called SUPERHOT, you are sucked into this game and given tasks to do in order to unlock the next chapter. The dialogue is full of funny dialogue text to make you chuckle, as there is only two words spoken and that is SUPER HOT, otherwise there is no other dialogue. You begin to realize that there is a persona on the other end of the computer, making sure you complete tasks and get the stuff that the computer needs and giving you a limited choice on how to complete the tasks of killing the bad guys, the weapons available when attacking/killing someone are different as you need to pick up weapons each stage, you don’t choose your load out and then load into the game and go.  You use everyday items and weapons picked up, the game also has the ability for you to switch characters, allowing you to create a setup where you are going to die but at the last second you can switch bodies, killing what would now be your opponent and old body, increasing your innovation on ways to kill. You could see that a lot of thought has gone into the creation of this and concept behind it, because each level is unique, this creates a challenge for players not to step out of line or move to quickly to avoid being killed. There is a whole ton of strategy needed for this. The gameplay almost favours the slower speed, trust me trying to do things quickly doesn’t work.

This game has been out on PC for a while and has been going through development for a long time, normally these styles of games flop when they are brought over to the console; however there clearly was a whole ton of development done as this game is smoother than smooth. I haven’t come across any bugs or frame drops; the game hasn’t crashed or had any issues.

There are a few things I didn’t like about this game; with the primary colour being white it is a little hard to distinguish the boarders of certain items when in a rush, as everything is while. Also the weapons break too easily when thrown it’s a bit sad that you can’t bounce your weapon off someone and use it to kill the next person and also the lack of an ammo count, it would be good to be able to tell how much ammo is left, so you could intertwine it into the strategy.

The developers have really done some amazing work on this game and other works of art outside the gaming sector so I will be looking forward to seeing what they will think of next. I thoroughly enjoyed this game! This is a game to play for hours on end or if you have 20 minutes to kill.

One of my favourite indie games out today. I would highly recommend picking it up!

Thanks to everyone who made this possible!
