I never had the chance to play Bridge Constructor when it first launched on the Xbox One back in 2015. The idea of just constructing bridges to get you from point A to B never really appealed to me. It just didn’t sound like the type of game that would be able to grab my attention and indulge me into spending money on it.
Over the past week or so, I managed to get my hands on a copy of their newest title to the construction series, Bridge Constructor Stunts. After veering away from it so often from their previous title, I decided to finally indulge in and see if there was more to it than just building bridges. And I have to say, I may have been mistaken from before. It`s enjoyable, and very, very fun.
Bridge Constructor Stunts is developed and published by HeadUp games and was released on the 16th December this year. Bridge Constructor is a fun strategic game, that will ask of you to build a bridge and rampways to get from A to B. You`re going to need to make sure you dodge obstacles and make sure you make it as crazy as you possibly can. You`re going to want to make something that`ll make you thrive for the adrenaline of stunting. Because let`s face it, driving along a long bridge is boring. Surely having something that`ll put you on the edge of your seat is more exciting?
After a few tutorial levels, it`s time to crack straight into the action. You`ve got to get from point A to B. You`re going to need to do it in a way that gets your truck/van/dumpster truck to the end goal without either blowing it up or completely destroying it. In each mission, you`ll also have the ability to earn screws and stars (Especially later on in the levels as you go) and you`ll need to try and build your bridges to accommodate them. How you`re going to get them is completely up to you. You`re going to need to think about how you could possibly get those screws and stars, some of which are in the horrendous of places to get to. It`s good fun though being able to play around with different layouts and ways to achieve it.
However, you also need to make sure you keep an eye on your spending. You will be given a set limit on each level (This does progress every time you go up) and it`s something that building bridges will deplete. You need to make sure you keep an eye on as it will not let you go past your limit, and then you`d have to go back to the drawing board of moving it around again so that you can accommodate the balance and to make sure that your bridges can withstand the pressure of having a truck or vehicle race across it. I found many a time that my supports under my bridge were not strong enough and they`d keep buckling when a vehicle came across giving way. And even on some levels I found my bridges giving away before I`d even put the vehicle into first gear! I found myself having to test the track and test my bridges many a time before, and after failing the first few attempts, having to re-build and re-strategize what the best options were.
And of course, one of the additions to this game is the use of stunts. Oh yes, aswell as building the bridges to get you from point A to B, you`re going to want to see you`re truck and vehicles do some serious stuff in the air. Being able to backflip in a truck in real life would be a horrific experience, but as I said earlier, it`s boring just driving along a bridge, so let`s mix it up a bit. You`ll earn extra points based on pulling off stunts and air time. Flips are just part of the action and there`s so much you can pull off. It adds another dimension to the game, and makes it a lot more enjoyable.
Bridge Constructor Stunts is a fun ID game that you`ll get good enjoyment out of. It`s made me want to go and invest into the first game and enjoy that. I appear to have been wrong about the first game, and it`s a pretty neat and enjoyable franchise for many gamers. I`d be intrigued to see if there`s any other options and ideas in the tank for future games. But in the mean time, if you`ll excuse me, I need to go and work out my next bridge build.
