Welcome to the first instalment of AG match of the day, where we’ll review every game played in the AG Fantasy Leagues every week.
Now, this is my first attempt at this, and it may be a bit long winded but I just wanted to put one out with a lot of detail in there, and see how you all like. any feed back would be great! Enjoy!
The first game up tonight on MOTD is Leeds v LA Galaxy, this used to be a huge game years ago in the Premiership, and now even bigger in AG Fantasy League. YORKSHIREWHI7ES , who is regarded as the favourite to go down this season was pitted against a well-respected manager Cheesey Crease. Before the game we caught up with Cheesey and he told us “If you’re looking to bet on someone to make the top 5 in league one this year, I am your man. I’m like Spurs when it comes to league places, always finishing 5th.”
The first game started with a dull half but then right on half time a goal from the highly rated new man Victor Ibarbo, gave yorkie the upper hand going into dressing room. You’d expect Cheesey got into his players at half time because they came out fighting, leaving himself open at the back and on the 55th minute, Obafemi Martins, the record BFA signing doubled Yorkie’s lead leaving cheesey with a lot to do. On the 70th minute, cheesey got one back with Muriel securing a goal that made the ending of the game very enjoyable for the neutral, cheesey should’ve levelled but threw away chances which led to yorkie winning the game 2-0.
Game two, Cheesey went in at half time with Ibarbo getting both of the goals, and came out of the traps again in the second half with a bit between his teeth, soon enough leading 4-0 within 60 minutes, 2 goals from Obafemi Martins near enough guaranteed the victory. A consolation goal for Muriel gave the score a respectable look, however another goal for Ibarbo secured his hat trick on the opening day of the season.
A delighted Yorkie told me after the game “I was really happy with both of my performances, ive spent a lot of money in pre season on Ibarbo and Martins but, they’ve repaid me a lot of money there and I think they will score a lot of goals this season. Trust me they are a force to be reckoned with! To those thinking I will go down… watch out!”
Next we move onto wellsa27 v aaronc333, the reigning champion aaron is tipped again to win the league 1 title, however his first matches of the season were no easy pickings. Aaron certainly started the better, creating a few chances in the early minutes, Cisse & Sau combined well in the penalty box and Cisse slotted one home to open the scoring. After that it was all wells, he was rewarded with an equalizer as Erkin struck a beautiful 25 yard strike. In the 43rd minute wells misplaced a pass in his own half and left Gomez 1v1 with the keeper but didn’t panic and seen aaron go back ahead. In the 56th minute Eder found room in the box, stayed cool, and slotted the ball from 17 yards out to cut aaron’s lead and end the game as a 2-2 draw.
Game 2 and with only 4 minutes on the clock Wellsa took an early and surprising lead. Shortly after Gomez equalised for Aaron with a super free kick, nestling into the top corner, and again 7 minutes later Cisse found space, dribbled past two defenders and passed it into the bottom corner. 2-1. On the 26th minute, Wells lost the ball near the opposition box, and the counter attacked was unleashed, the ball was passed to Sau and he smashed it past the keeper. 3-1 at HT. Despite the first half being probably the most exciting halves of the gameweek, the second half was nothing to write home about, Sau made it 4-1, with 2 minutes remaining, game over and the tie finished 4-1.
We also heard Wells’ view on the game; “lets not beat ourselves up too much, aaron is a quality player and is always there or there abouts in the league, we held him to a 2-2 draw in the first game, and I feel the score line In the second was a bit harsh, but that’s football, you drop your concentration for 2 seconds and you’ll be punished. I feel with the acquisitions weve brought in in pre season it will stand us in good stead, Cristian Atsu is a fantastic player, he’s one of those players that bring flair to the team, and he’s enabled me to put Llajic in the middle who showed a great bit of skill for his goal.”
Big B 1970 played deareststorm in MD1/2 and game ones biggest talking point was a red card for Big’s player Son, he told us “No way on earth was that a red card, absolute joke, I hope the FA overturn that one!”
Storm capitalised having an extra man on the pitch and tried to take control of the game, however Big had the best chances of the game but in the last minutes Storm scored as Die grabbed a late winner to take all 3 points back to Amsterdam.
The second game was a lot more entertaining, end to end game, Bri was knocking on the door all game, which left himself open at the back and Harry Kane took the game by the scruff of the neck and bagged his first goal of the season early in the second half. Like the first game bri had another red card, this one more intentional. Although bri was down to 10 men he was still controlling the game as soon enough pulled one back through Shane Long due to a bad mistake at the back by storm. But it was that man again, Harry Kane, in the right place at the right time to secure another 3 points for storm!
Up next we see, league 2 hopeful gingerneo up against @Stevie17b.
After a good start by Stevie, going 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes, Ginge grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and fired in two goals in quick succession making it 2-1 just before the half had ended. Ginge finished the game off around the 70th minute with a superb finish from Downing to seal the victory.
Game 1 – Ginge 3 – 1 Stevie
Scorers Ginge: Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kone, Downing
Stevie: Hooper
A whopping 4-0 victory for Ginge sends him top of the league 2 table on goal difference. Goals by Aspas, Downing, Oxlade-Chamberlain & Kone and a welcoming clean sheet for Starke means Ginge is one of the front runners early on in the season.
Game 2 – Ginge 4 – 0 Stevie
scorers for ginge: Aspas, Downing, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kone
Clean sheet: Starke
oBIGASHo v caws 09
Game 1
ash 3 – 0 caws
scorers: Carroll, Potuk, Geis
The first game was all Ash, he took the lead very early on in the game and stamped his authority from there. He played the game very well, dominating in midfield and took his chances surprisingly well. Another one just on the stroke of half time seen him go into the half time team talk 2-0 up. And shortly after half time, Geis struck another for the home side to see him seal victory in the first game of the season, without a sniff of opportunity for Caws he must’ve given his players a bollocking at full time.
Game 2
ash 2 – 1 caws
Scorers: Carroll, Defeleuo
Ari
This game was a game of two halves. First half dominated by Caws, everything flowing through his vital playermaker Ari. He took the lead on 20 minutes through that man again Ari. I think if Caws would’ve gotten another before half time it would’ve been a different story. As Ash’s players came out for half time you could see they had a rocket up their arse and began to play the football we have been accustomed to, quick movements of the ball and one two passes quickly opened up Caws defence and Andy Carroll proved why he is a great player in the league and scored another goal. Heading into the last minutes of the game Ash was again dominating proceedings, and a through ball found Defeleuo and he slotted home to record another victory for Ash in game week ½.
We managed to catch up with him as he was walking out of the stadium and he said “Smashed him, bad shooting first game, or else it was a rugby score! He evened it up a bit after the break, poor finishing will cost me but what’s new? Nothing more needs to be said”
Take from that what you can folks, (if you can!)
DanLH16 v ImmortalTanz
3-2
1-0
Game 1 started with a bang, literally! Tanz’s men hit the post 3 times in the first half, and going into half time we had a level score of 2-2, goals from Bruma, Muriel, 1 from Batshuayi and 1 from Affelay kept the game at a deadlock. The second half was much more of a chess game, very tight game and a half of few chances, until the 90th minute where a corner from Dan was headed in by the prolific striker Batshuayi.
Like the second half of the first game, the second game followed suit, being very tight and limited each other to few chances. The game went long periods without a shot, Dan had seemed to master getting to grips with Aboukabar and Muriel, after Tanz had tried to use their pace to his advantage in the first game. Early on in the second half, Jorginho seen a spectacular effort hit the post, right until the 90th minute the game was at a deadlock, until dan sent Batshuayi through, 1 on 1 with the keeper and he kept his cool and slotted it home for his second win! Dan left with all 6 points but I think Tanz will feel hard done by in both games.
We now come to league 2 newboy CookieMUFC V the consistently performing Emotionalworm, the game started fantastically, with Cookie dominating the early proceedings, within 5 minutes it could’ve been 3-0 to Cookie, worm then relaxed the play and slowed it up to his tempo meaning Cookie couldn’t get into his usual fast paced movement and passing, but just before half time Jese Rodriguez found some space and curled one in from just inside the box. Lovely finish.
Cookie continued to dominate the game and it could’ve finished 4/5-0 towards the end but worm defended well and the game ended 1-0.
Onto game 2 now and it started pretty much how the first game ended. Cookie opened up worm and again, Jese found space, 1v1 with the keeper and slotted home. After the goal it was all Worm, and it took a few fine saves from New boy Ospina, to keep Cookie in the lead. In the second half the game was a stalemate, heading into the last 10 minutes where worm was pressing for an equalizer he left himself open at the back leaving Icardi free at the back post for a tap in to make the game 2-0 and out of Worm’s hands.
We spoke to the unlucky manager, and he said “I think Cookie, will go on to win the league, but he mustn’t underestimate anyone in this league, there’s upsets every week and you must go into every game with the right attitude. Regarding todays games, I think Cookie deserved both games, however we played some nice football and troubled him, especially in the second game.”
TheAshCohen09 v TheWayneyG
Arsenal Tula started their season off against Feyenoord in what was expected to be a interesting match. Both teams started intensly, but it was Feyenoord that took the lead Through Pabon. 1-0 to the away side. A dazzling pass from Romulo set off Paulo Dybala who calmly took it past the defence before slotting past the keeper. 1-1. From then on it was chances galore for both sides. Goal line cleareances, posts, crossbars. End of the match, neither team could break through and it finished 1-1.
The away tie for Arsenal Tula started better than the home leg. Paulo Dybala put the away side up early on and sent the away fans into raptures. However, there was a eery atmosphere and something wasnt right. There was no fluidity in their passing, and they some looked tired. Fabio Borini, a man who had been linked away from Feyenoord got the equalising goal before Pabon headered home the winner, in a very close fought match. The outcome of the match being, 2-1 to Wayney. Again, it was a match of chances galore, neither side being able to take them. Arsenal Tula will be hoping for a better start and more fluid passing in their games this sunday, against Kaizer chiefs.
Markos6969 v Subz87
Markos - Subz 2-0 - Atiba Hutchinson and Jay Rodriguez, Clean Sheet: John Ruddy
After an even first half, the game changed at half time, in the 2nd half Markos got a goal after miscommunication in my defense, pushed up and 2-0 came soon after that.
Subz - Markos 1-1 - Kenwynne Jones (Lille) , Romain Alessandrini (America)
Big Man Kenwyne Jones scored 1-0 after some nice passing play, then Markos got a penalty in the 73' min. Might have gotten 3p if it wasn't for the penalty, but Markos has a habit of scoring against me after the 80' min anyways.
We spoke to Subz after the game and he said "Overall happy with getting 1 point from these games"
