LONGFORD TOWN AND THE LONG ROAD AHEAD

The first games of the new campaign for Longford Town and manager Caws were perhaps not the ones they were expecting, but they were played with a determination unmatched to this date in training. TheWayneyG was the opponent, and these encounters did not disappoint.

Lets hear from Caws.

Caws, a difficult set of games vs a tough opponent, how do you rate your start?

Well Jeff, 3 points are 3 points gained and a loss is 3 points lost. To say the lads are gutted about the loss is an understatement, but they felt they worked hard for the win despite some dubious reffing.

Are....you....sure you want to be talking about referees in this way?

Yes. Wayne should've won the second game, I should've won the first. I find it it implausible that these matches were not in some way hampered by poor judgement on behalf of the officials.

How do you feel the games went for you?

We had too many shots without any conversion in the first game and that is something we need to look at. We were swamped in midfield, and I take full responsibility for that. Gnabry on the wing was a poor choice to start with, I learned this in the second game with Ibe taking over. We were very fortunate with 2 of our goals in the second game. I thoroughly believe we should have had 3 points each, but the results reversed.

Where do you go from here? Squad expansion maybe?

I have a nicely balanced squad with a lot of potential, but we're lacking that cutting edge upfront. Maybe investment in another striker or some squad experimentation will enlighten me to more goals and more fluid play.

Who is your star player thus far and why?

In defence, I have to say it would be Mattiello. He's been solid for me thus far and gets forward when needed. In attack, it has to be Louis. Two goals so far, an assist for another and his technical ability has helped the lads around him tenfold.

Hopes for the season?

By seasons end, I want a permanent ice-cream van situated in the dug-out and I've already petitioned the owners for more funds, in order to invest in a ball pit for myself. Screw the team, this ones for me.

Thank you for your time, Caws.

A go fist yourself with a cactus you utter pillock.
