The people of Daejon could not believe what they were seeing when club Chairman, who is also the Mayor of Daejon announced that Jack Cookson was the new manager of the Korean club.
The former Fiorentina manager who won the league and cup double in his final season in Italy, has supposedly took a 70% cut in wages to manage the K-League side. In his first 3 games of the season he has had an overwhelming start, blowing the competition out of the water
Games played 6
Won 6
Goals scored 15
Goals conceded 1
Jack spoke to us on Daejon radio and when asked why he came to Korea he said "I'm not too sure really, when I won the double in Florence I thought I'd take a sabbatical from the game as it seemed too easy, when I had the chance to manage in Asia I thought I'd jump at the chance as its only a once in a lifetime opportunity, and football here is on the up. We've got some great talent at the club, Dejaegere has been in fantastic form scoring 5 in 6 games. Securing the signing of live wire Jackson Martinez (not the famous one) has been a real plus ans adding to our defence in Giovanni Marchese was massive for us as he brings the needed experience which I think will guide us to the league title."
Rumours are you're on the lookout for a CDM is that true?
"Listen were always on the lookout for new talent and I particularly think we need to strengthen in that area as we only have two first team midfielders and if one gets injured we'll be in the deep stuff."
You have also recently sold Kakitani to Roobiash for 2million, what are your thoughts on that?
"yoichiri came to me and asked me for a move it was as simple as that, he wasn't getting enough minutes and seeked pastures new."
Thanks Jack, all the best for the season
