They were dancing in the streets of Kielce and celebrating in the city's bars long into the night last week as Korona finally got their first win of the season. Big B's team had not won in 18 competitve games in all competitions until they picked up their first 3 points so the celebrations were mixed with a sense of relief after the 2-0 defeat of Derry City.
We caught up with the Korona boss for his thoughts on the season so far:
Were you starting to think you'd never win a game?
Of course not, we've been the better team in plenty of games this season, so it was only a matter of time before this was reflected in the scoreline.
So a lot of the defeats are down to bad luck?
I wouldnt say that. Quite a few managers Ive come up against this season have praised my players and said we;ve not had the rub of the green, but you still need to stick the ball in the net more often if youre going to win games.
You've conceded a lot of penalties this season. Is that a factor?
Definitely. The standard of refereeing in this league is poor to say the least. We are a tough tackling team but always try to play fair, and some of the decisions against us have been dreadful to put it lightly.
Maluleka and LuaLua got the goals in your win, has that taken some pressure off Meteb?
Ive no doubt that Meteb is the best finisher in this division but he cant be relied on to score all our goals, so its great that his teammates can chip in.
So why did you get rid of one of your forwards?
Maboulou was here to score goals, and he didnt, so out he went. deareststorm offered me Kenwyne Jones as a straight swap, and that seemed like a great deal. The big man will add an extra dimension to the team.
The signing of Schmitz raised a few eyebrows though.
I saw a lot of potentioal in the lad, not at left back where he played at his last club, but either anchoring the midfield or as a solid centre back. He's improved the squad in my opinion.
Your next games are against top of the table Lugano. Confident of more wins?
@thewayneyg is a good manager, he's got a good team playing well, but everyone in this league is beatable.
