We recently caught up with Hilly89, the Red Bull Leipzig manager to find out his thoughts on transfer deadline day and his targets for the remainder of the season:
First of all, transfer deadline day. How was it for you?
Very enjoyable, seeing the community coming together in the videos and having a laugh with/at each other was great fun.
In your video, you were seen with the Watford manager andybrill89 why was this?
Well, we go back many years to our school days and I was after one of his players. We couldn’t negotiate a deal for Agedulo but managed to bring another player in for less money.
Mohammed Kudus, what was the thinking behind signing him?
We need a pacey striker to replace Jack Marriott when he is tired so he seems like an ideal fit. He is only 18 years of age with huge potential, so this could be seen as one for the future.
Was Christian Pulisic the type of player that you were hoping to bring in on deadline day?
Not at all, I was after a CDM but didn’t want to pay through the roof for one. The players on offer in that position went for more than I thought so we didn’t strengthen in that area. However, I am delighted to bring Pulisic to Leipzig as he is another talent with a big potential. We now have a few options to experiment with going forward.
So you’re happy only bringing in two attacking players?
No, I would have liked a couple of defensive minded players as well but finances restricted this.
Finally, what are your targets for the rest of the season?
The dream would be automatic promotion, but I don’t see that happening. I have three difficult fixtures against L0stbOy90 Judgebredd71 and Emotionalworm . But I expect the playoffs at least. Whoever we get to play in them, we are confident we can compete and win them.
