Star Wars™ Battlefront™ to Debut at Star Wars™ Celebration

Rating: 5.00/5 (1 Vote)

“At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge.”

Star Wars Battlefront will get its public unveiling at this year's Star Wars Celebration weekend. Let me run that by you again. STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT WILL BE SHOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THIS YEAR'S STAR WARS CELEBRATION.

At E3 2013 EA and DICE revealed that they were working on a next generation Star Wars Battlefront game. The teaser trailer below is all that was shown.

As you can see from the above video no ingame footage was shown. But the cinematic was enough to send me into a giddy screaming fit. Then at E3 2014 another video was shown.

Again no ingame footage. But concept art and models can clearly be seen in various shots as the camera pans around the office and changes angles during the interviews?

As frustrating as these little teases are they only helped to stoke the fanboy flames that were already raging inside me. And yesterday to add even more fuel to the fire EA released a statement which you can read in full below,

You’ve Been Patient Young Padawans, and soon your Patience will be Rewarded.

It seems like such a long time ago (at an E3 press conference far, far away) since we announced we were working on Star Wars™ Battlefront™. Last year, we promised you would “See More in Spring 2015”. Spring is coming.

We’re thrilled to share that Star Wars Battlefront will be taking part in Star Wars™ Celebration next month in Anaheim, CA from April 16-19. We could not think of a better or more appropriate place to debut the game officially for the first time than the premier event that celebrates the Star Wars universe and the legions of fans who have fallen in love with it. We will see you at Star Wars Celebration!

So there you have it. We are finally going to see ingame footage this April. I can't begin to put into words how excited I am about this. I was lucky enough to have grown up when Star Wars took over the world and I openly admit to a complete and utter fanboy when it comes to the original trilogy. The Empire Strikes Back being the best of the three, obviously. My love of gaming has allowed me to pilot a Snowspeeder on Hoth and battle against AT-AT's, engage in Light Sabre battles against Jedi's and Sith alike, become a Storm Trooper to fight the Rebel scum,  fly through the forest moon of Endor on a Speederbike and destroy a Death Star. The list goes on and on and on. Battlefront on the original Xbox was and still is one of the best multiplayer experiences I ever had on the original Xbox. Multiplayer games of 16 v 16 which even now isn't commonplace for console gaming was a thrill a minute rollercoaster where the ebb and flow of battle would lean one way one minute and then shift again just as quickly. If there is one game I am stupidly hyped for this year it's Star Wars Battlefront.

DICE have the gaming pedigree to pull something really special off with this game. The hype surrounding it is huge and Peter Moore only stoked those flames higher when after a behind closed doors showcase at this year's GDC he sent out this Tweet,

Was this just Peter Moore adding fuel to the fire or is the game so impressive that even jaded games journalists were blown away. We all know it's his job to hype EA's upcoming games so a certain amount of scepticism has to be taken onboard when talking about that Tweet. However the eternal optimist in me has to believe that something special this way comes and maybe just maybe we will have a Star Wars game that can stand side by side with the old guard of Star Wars games.

But what do we want to see or more importantly what do we hope to see. My own wish list includes 64 player battles, a huge range of land, air and sea vehicles, the ability to launch from a space station and engage in dogfights but being able to bring that fight down to a planets surface without any kind of transitory, the ability to create your own maps and custom game types ala Halo. But how about being able to play missions from the Star Wars universe in co-op? Sure there are a lot of obvious ones to choose from but what if you could play missions you only heard about in the films. How about a stealth mission where you play as a group of Bothans trying to steal the plans for the Death Star or piloting the Millennium Falcon and having to do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?

Let us know in the forum what you're hoping to see.
