Injustice 2 Review

Rating: 5.00/5 (2 Votes)

Let me take you on a journey, into the world of DC and the world of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Super Girl and many more just to name a few. Over the past week, I`ve had the chance to jump into the world of DC and into the world of Injustice 2, brought to us by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. We`re going to jump into the DC characters as we work together to take down the evil Brainiac and stop the Society from causing all sorts of mayhem. Is it however a game that`s going to be worth the play-through? Well, it certainly is, and I cannot stop playing it.

Injustice 2 was released just over a week ago, and is developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros, and is the sequel to the 2013 Injustice: Gods Among Us. The game focuses around Batman and his society`s attempt to restore life and society after the fall of Superman`s regime, and teaming up with his crew, they must defeat the group known as “The Society” and stop Brainiac, and must free the imprisoned Superman and use his powers to defeat the society. Across the game, you`re going to have the chance to use a range of characters including Batman, Super girl, Cat woman, Wonder Woman, Aqua Man and Harley Quinn just to name a few. Offering a range of modes including the story mode (Which is where I spent most of my time) and online, we`re about to jump into what I was about to find out was going to be a very fun and enjoyable game.

After selecting your difficulty level at the start of the game (Easy, Medium, Hard – However I was new to the Injustice game and I found Medium relatively easy, so if you want a challenge, then I`d look at tackling the hard difficulty) you are given the option to take on the tutorial, which for me, was something I jumped straight into, but if you`ve played something like Mortal Kombat before, then you`ll probably have no need, as the controls are very similar. After learning some of the basics and then learning some of the special move abilities, I was ready to jump into the action and into a cutscene where the story begins. You can skip through the cutscenes if you want to get straight to the combat and action, but where`s the fun in that. The cutscenes tell the story, and I must say, especially in the cut-scenes, the game looks fantastic and stunning. Some of the character models look very impressive, and although some do appear to look nicer than the others in terms of their visual element, it`s still very impressive, and is very nice to watch (I know I`ve had this debate in other reviews where I know a game`s visual element doesn’t make up a good game, but damn it`s sure nice to watch when it looks stunning).

I said if you`d played games like Mortal Kombat before then you`re going to love this. The cutscenes and story is broken down into combat sequences where you`re going to have to face and combat other DC characters. You do get the chance to play as probably every DC character within the game at some point during the story, and after playing the tutorial, the basics are going to come quite easily and relatively easy to defeat opponents early in the game. I found the further into the game you got, the more powered enemies and opposition you would face, so you`d need to be smart and try and time some of the controls a bit better than earlier on, as it does appear to get more and more difficult. However, practice as always makes perfect, and after several early matches and battles, you`ll start to pick up the main combo moves and being able to execute the special moves. These don’t change controls wise throughout and all follow the same control configs, with of course the moves varying within each character’s arsenal.

Throughout the game, you`re also going to get the option to gather loot crates, which can be opened and in return will reward you with upgradable costumes for your DC characters, these will make them stronger and more powered within the game, but note that you must reach a certain level with each character to unlock and use the stuff that you`ve got out of a crate. And to reach some of the levels that you`re going to need in order to be able to use some of the luxury stuff, then you`re going to have to look further than the story, and you`re going to need to look at either working back through the story (Which of course is totally doable, and will help you 1) rank up and level up your characters even further and 2) have a chance to play with some of the other DC characters that you missed out on). Aswell as the loot crates, you can customize and play around with your character card.

And of course, if you want to jump straight into some competitive multiplayer action, then you can do so. I did, and perhaps for me, early on in my Injustice career, probably wasn’t the wisest as I came up across 4 gamers in a row, that destroyed me early on. Nice.

Injustice 2 is a game that`s a fantastic sequel to the first one, and I must admit I`ve pleasantly enjoyed playing through. I don’t normally like the Mortal Kombat-esque games, and games that follow a similar sort of control, but I`ve really enjoyed playing through Injustice 2, and already makes me want to jump back into the story and try and play through with some of the other characters and work through some achievements (Which most of which are either online based, or defeat someone with a character`s special move), but if you weren’t considering it, I`d definitely consider it, as it`s a brilliant addition to the Xbox family and is well worth the play.
